This site gives an overview of oceanographic cruise data from the Bering Strait region since 2000, focusing on cruises related to the Bering Strait mooring turn-around.  It gives links to ftp sites/national data archives holding the data and/or email addresses for the responsible PI.  Some plotted data sections are also available below.  For mooring data, see Mooring Website.
On many cruises, several more data sets were collected in addition to physical data, frequently under separate funding.  These data types are listed in the table below, with either links to the archived data or to the responsible PI.

ORIENTATION

From 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, ONR/NSF funded Woodgate and Aagaard for dedicated mooring cruises on the Alpha Helix. CTD, ship's ADCP and underway data from these cruises are available below. The data were collected by Woodgate and Aagaard and processed by Weingartner.  Note that underway data have not been quality controlled ("no QC" designator below).
Please cite CTD, ship's ADCP and underway data as Woodgate, Aagaard and Weingartner.

For 2002, 2003 and 2004, the US NSF program SBI also took station data across the eastern channel of the Bering Strait from the USCGC Healy.
In 2004, 2005 and 2006, the NOAA-RUSALCA (Russian American Long-Term Census of the Arctic) funded Whitledge and Weingartner, to do western channel mooring and both channel section work from the Russian vessels Khromov and Sever.
In 2005 and 2006, the eastern channel Bering Strait moorings (Woodgate, Aagaard and Weingartner) were turned around in collaboration with Carmack and Van Hardenberg of IOS, Canada, on the Canadian vessel Laurier with funding from NSF and from AOOS (the Alaskan Ocean Observing System).
In 2007,  Bering Strait moorings (eastern and western channels) and CTD work was completed on the Russian vessel Sever by Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge under funding from NSF-IPY (International Polar Year) and NOAA-RUSALCA.

In 2008,  Bering Strait moorings (eastern and western channels) was completed on the Russian vessel Lavrentiev by Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge under funding from NSF-IPY (International Polar Year) and NOAA-RUSALCA.  Due to bad weather, no CTD data was taken on this cruise.
In 2009,  Bering Strait moorings (eastern and western channels) and CTD work was completed on the Russian vessel Khromov by Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge under funding from NSF-IPY (International Polar Year) and NOAA-RUSALCA, (who funded shiptime and mooring deployments).
        In 2010,
Bering Strait moorings (eastern and western channels) and CTD work was completed on the Russian vessel Khromov by Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge under funding from NSF-AON (Arctic Observing Network) and NOAA-RUSALCA
.

In 2011,  Bering Strait moorings (eastern channel) and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the Russian vessel Khromov by Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge under funding from NSF-AON (Arctic Observing Network) and NOAA-RUSALCA.
In 2012, Bering Strait moorings (eastern channel) and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the Russian vessel Khromov by Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge under funding from NSF-AON (Arctic Observing Network) and NOAA-RUSALCA.  In addition, moorings deployed in the Russian side of the strait in 2010, which were unable to be accessed in 2011, were recovered as part of the RUSALCA Leg 2 cruise.  No moorings were redeployed in Russian waters.
In 2013, Bering Strait moorings (eastern channel) and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This was the final recovery of the high resolution array (funded by NSF-AON, Woodgate, Weingartner and Whitledge).  Under new funding from ONR (PI: Woodgate), 3 moorings were deployed in US waters in the strait region (sites A2, A3 and A4).
In 2014, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery of the 3 ONR moorings (PI: Woodgate) and the first deployment of a new NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate, Heimbach and Nguyen) of 3 moorings at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.

In 2015, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery and redeployment of 3 moorings of the 2nd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate, Heimbach and Nguyen) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.

In 2016, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery and redeployment of 3 moorings of the 2nd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate, Heimbach and Nguyen) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.

In 2017, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery and redeployment of 3 moorings of the 2nd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate, Heimbach and Nguyen) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.

In 2018, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery of 3 moorings from the 2nd NSF-AON array (PIs: Woodgate, Heimbach and Nguyen) and redeployment of 3 moorings of the 3rd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate and Peralta-Ferriz) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.

In 2019, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery and redeployment of 3 moorings of the 3rd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate and Peralta-Ferriz) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.

In 2020, Bering Strait mooring work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  Due to the pandemic, no science personal were present on the cruise - operations and ship course was  directed remotely from land.  No CTDs or mooring recoveries were undertaken on the cruise.  Howeve, the cruise deployed 3 new moorings  as part of the 3rd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate and Peralta-Ferriz) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.
In 2021, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery of 6 moorings (3 deployed in 2019, 3 deployed in 2020) and redeployment of 3 moorings as part of the 3rd NSF-AON array (PIs:  Woodgate and Peralta-Ferriz) at the standard sites A2, A3 and A4.
In 2022, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery of 2 moorings (A3-21 and A4-21, mooring A2-21 could not be found) of our prior NSF-AON array and deployment of 3 moorings for our new NSF-AON array including bio-optic measurements at the standard sites A2, A3, and A4.  A new attempt to recover A2-21 is planned for summer 2023.
In 2023, Bering Strait mooring and CTD work (US waters only) was completed on the US vessel Norseman2.  This work included recovery of 3 moorings (A3-22, A2-22 and A4-22) of our new NSF-AON array including bio-optic measurements and deployment of 3 new moorings.  A Norbit multibeam survey of the A2 region was unable to find the lost mooring A2-21. CTD sections with nutrient sampling and trace metal sampling were undertaken on the cruise.
