Definition of SeasonsWe created a summer and winter climatology with a high quality Arctic Ocean by merging WOA 1998 analyzed fields with EWG analyzed fields, along with data from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). For an explaination of how this was done, reference the "PHC 2.1 Detailed Report". Also reference section 2 of the PHC 2.0 paper, which describes in detail the WOA and EWG (AOA) data fields. Be aware that some of the specific details in this paper have changed for PHC 2.1. For example, the "Arctic Region" was redefined, and data from BIO were added. The PHC 2.1 Overview describes these changes, and the reasons for them.
Field Depths
For each season, there is a temperature and a salinity field for each of
33 depths.
