…Also in (1) you can see the “Salinity Taste Test” in which we challenge the students to distinguish between water samples with salinities 0 - 40 ppt, in 5 ppt increments. To save time, they randomly select only 3 samples. In previous trials, we found that 5 ppt increments are harder to distinguish at the salty end of the scale, possibly because the % difference is not as great. So I set up a big chart to mark errors and expected to see more at higher salinities. However, this day there were NO errors at all! Maybe those right-brained people have better tongues than us left-brainers?!
