Introduction

Global sea ice data are provided here to the scientific community and the general public for studying the variability and change of the polar climate. The data include monthly mean sea ice thickness, concentration, growth rate, and melt rate due to ocean heat flux, for both polar oceans. The data are based on the realistic output of a Global Ice-Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System (GIOMAS) for the period 1970-2005.  The sea ice thickness fields are illustrated by the following movies.
