Introduction

Global sea ice data are provided here to the scientific community and the general public for studying the variability and change of the polar climate. The data include monthly mean sea ice thickness, concentration, growth rate, and melt rate due to ocean heat flux, for both polar oceans. Also included are snow depth and some of the ocean variables. The data are based on the realistic output of the Global Ice-Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System (GIOMAS) for the period 1979-present.  The sea ice thickness fields are illustrated by some of the following movies.
